InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion Survey: South Carolina Democratic Primary
Compiled from InsiderAdvantage and Southern Political Report staff
January 16, 2008 — Conducted Jan 14-15 400 likely voters in Democratic South Carolina Primary Survey weighted for age, race, gender, and political affiliation Margin of error +/-5%
Q. If the Democratic President Primary were held today would you vote for:
Barack Obama: 41% Hillary Clinton: 31% John Edwards: 13% Other: 1% Undecided: 14%
InsiderAdvantage/Creator Syndicate’s Matt Towery: “Hillary Clinton has lost the lion’s share of the African-American vote in South Carolina. The presence of John Edwards is hurting Clinton as he claims a portion of the white vote that Clinton badly needs.
“These numbers echo the results we saw right after Oprah Winfrey campaigned in South Carolina for Obama. My guess is that the recent issues related to Dr. Martin Luther King have led to this consolidation of black vote, which makes up 50% of the South Carolina Democratic vote.
“Additionally, Obama leads among independents who say they will vote in the primary.” |
